Ebola

February 13 –  Belgium becomes the first country in the world to legalise euthanasia for terminally ill patients of any age.

March 2 – 86th academy awards 12 Years a Slave wins the Academy Award for Best Picture.

March 2 – Ellen Degeneres’ took an epic A- List celeb-filled selfie during the Oscars ceremony that became the most retweeted tweet ever.

March 8 – Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, a Boeing 777 airliner en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, disappears over the Gulf of Thailand. The aircraft is presumed to have crashed into the Indian Ocean, killing all 283 passengers and 15 crew on board

April 14– An estimated 276 girls and women are abducted and held hostage  from a school in Nigeria.

April 27– The Catholic Church canonizes Popes John XXIII and John Paul II  on Divine Mercy Sunday.

May 28 – Angelou Maya a great American poet and author died at age 86. She was also the first black woman director in Hollywood.

June 12 – July 13 – The 2014 FIFA World cup is held in Brazil, and is won by Germany. Germany defeats Argentina 1-0 in extra time.

July 14 – The Church of England votes in favor of allowing women to become bishops.

Aug 8- The West African Ebola outbreak is categorized as an international concern by the WHO. It was considered the most severe ever both in terms of numbers of infections and casualties.

Aug 11 – Much loved Comedian Robin Willians died at age 63.

Sept 4 – Outspoken TV personality Joan Rivers dies at age 81.

October 19 – The Roman Catholic church beatifies Pope Paul VI.

Sep 27 – The West African death toll from the Ebola virus reaches 3,000 lives

Nov 9th – Celebrations held in Germany to mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall; white balloons marking a stretch of the wall symbolize its disappearance.
